PPPs with the Government of New South Wales

Environmental restoration of the peninsula, marine cleaning from long, serious pollution, coastal zone regeneration and creation of a residential area. LIDIS participated in this along with three other companies.

The project: Purification of the dioxin-contaminated marine area due to the discharge of industrial waste, since the Second World War, by the use of the Indirect Thermal Desorption (ITD) method. The environmental reformation and regeneration of the peninsula, the development of the degraded area with the creation of a settlement of 250 apartments, shops and conference venues took place.

The launch of the environmental restoration work was followed by five years of research, design and planning, with the active participation of the community represented by the Rhodes Community Committee (RCC) which had a key role to both the planning process and the choice of the technology cleaning.

Budget: EUR 150 million ( LIDIS participation)

Implementation: Five years (1999-2004).
